The good old days

To the Editor:

The 1952 general election was held on Nov. 4, 1952. In the Aug. 17, 1952, St. Louis Post-Dispatch,  we read, “Gen. Dwight D. Eisenhower will make his first major campaign address to the nation over television and radio from Philadelphia’s Convention Hall Sept. 4. … [His campaign manager] said the Philadelphia address would open Eisenhower’s campaign.”

Let’s pause and try to wrap our minds around the idea of a U.S. presidential election campaign that starts two months before election day. I think I better understand the phrase “the good old days.”
