Independent review site SafeWise recently released its 2018 list for the Safest Cities in Missouri, and Cottleville received some recognition.
Cities were ranked based on population in proportion to reported rates of violent crimes and property crimes. The list’s top 20 cities have a violent crime rate that is 95 percent lower than the state average and 92 percent lower than the national average.
Though multiple municipalities from across the St. Louis and St. Louis County region made the top 20 list, the city of Cottleville was the only municipality from St. Charles County to claim a spot – coming in at No. 12.
With a reported population of about 5,151 in 2018, the ratio of violent crime in Cottleville was about 0.39 per 1,000 people, with the ratio of property crimes estimated to be about 6.6 per 1,000 people. The city’s total crime statistics were estimated at about 5.88 percent violent and 94.12 percent property.
