Pizza nearly 60 years in the making


Established in Illinois in 1959, Monical’s Pizza has a long-standing reputation for its food, atmosphere and “some of the friendliest service around,” as Monical’s Pizza of O’Fallon manager Rex Hoover says.

Monical’s Pizza of O’Fallon opened two years ago as the restaurant’s first Missouri location.

Rex, who has been with Monical’s for 24 years, said the restaurant is known for its thin crust, which contains yeast, giving it added flavor; the pizzas are then hearth-baked on a pizza stone, something that hasn’t changed since the restaurant’s beginnings nearly 60 years ago. 

“It’s not the easiest way to do pizza, but it gives it a much better quality,” Rex explained. 

Monical’s also offers a pan pizza option, which Rex noted has been a big seller at the O’Fallon location. 

“We’ve been around for so long [in Illinois] and we have such loyal, longtime guests, that they don’t even look at the menu anymore; they come in and know what they want,” Rex said. “Opening in O’Fallon has given us a chance for people to look at the menu and see [new things].”

Monical’s also it known for its POINT® Pizza, a specialty triangle-shaped pizza featuring a hybrid crust between thin and pan that is topped with a sweet tomato sauce and a heavy portion of meat.

“We wanted something to set us apart,” Rex said. “We wanted to make sure we were the only one that could do that, so we trademarked it so we’re the only one in the United States who can create a triangle pizza.” 

Monical’s of O’Fallon also serves sandwiches, salads, pasta, beer and wine. They offer carry-out or delivery and are open seven days a week.
