Jonathan Patrick fell in love with the restaurant industry before he was even old enough to drive. Now he’s the executive chef and, with Mike Holtrup, co-owner of Mike’s Grill + Tap in O’Fallon.
Mike’s Grill + Tap is known for its 24 craft beers. Year-round, visitors can taste the Angry Irish Wife red ale that was created by O’Fallon Brewery specifically for Mike’s Grill + Tap. For a light libation, Patrick recommends the Goodwood Spruce Tip IPA or Kirkwood Station Blackberry Wheat; for a darker stout, the Tallgrass Buffalo Sweat is the way to go.
“We try to go with mainly local craft beers,” Patrick noted, “and we dedicate four or five taps to craft beers from around the United States.”
Even better than the beer is the fresh, made-from-scratch food, including high-end, short rib burgers. The menu boasts chicken wings, pretzels, sandwiches, pork chops, salmon and more. Patrick recommends the crowd-favorite Shrimp and Goat Cheese Rellenos, which are roasted, stuffed, dipped in beer batter and fried, then topped with Cajun cream sauce and cilantro-lime sour cream.
Patrick also taps his love of hunting by periodically featuring game like elk, bison, alligator and rattlesnake.
The restaurant caters events on- and off-site and can host small and large parties.
At Mike’s Grill & Tap, the passion of a lifelong foodie guarantees creative food and great beer.
