The average home stores nearly 100 pounds of hazardous materials, including cleaning supplies, paints, lawn care products and pesticides, according to St. Charles County officials. Improper disposal of these products – pouring down a drain, tossing in unacceptable trash receptacles, emptying into storm sewers or dumping on the ground – poses a community health risk.
St. Charles County residents may safely dispose of Household Hazardous Waste [HHW] through the county’s Recycle Works locations.
Residents may bring unwanted items like chemicals, automobile fluids, pesticides and oil-based paints [latex paints are not accepted] to the following Recycle Works locations:
• Central, 60 Triad South in St. Charles
• West, 2110 East Pitman in Wentzville
Collection hours are from 9 a.m.-3 p.m., Tuesdays through Fridays, and on the last Saturday of the month, with no appointment necessary.
A $15 fee [cash or check only] is charged for loads of up to 50 pounds. For larger loads, the fee increases by $1 for each additional pound of material above the initial 50 pounds.
