Francis Howell students grant child’s wish

By: Ellen Lampe

In January, Francis Howell High hosted its first annual Swishes for Wishes Night to benefit the Make-A-Wish Foundation, and one special guest had his wish granted – thanks to the charitable efforts of students and the community.

Luca is an 8-year-old who faces every day with a lot of bravery. He’s been battling lymphoma, a cancer that starts in a person’s cells that are part of the body’s immune system.

Francis Howell High’s Make-A-Wish Club held its first Swishes for Wishes Night in honor of Luca and it was a rousing success. The night included several activities that helped raise funds for the Make-A-Wish Foundation to grant wishes for children in need, including Luca.

Over $1,300 was raised during the evening’s events. The night was capped off with the boys and girls basketball teams presenting Luca with a signed basketball. Luca then was granted his wish to go to LEGOLAND by members of the Howell Make-A-Wish Club and the Make-A-Wish-Foundation.
