St. Charles County Councilman Dave Hammond [District 4] has been named chairman of the council this year succeeding Councilmember Mike Elam [District 3].
The council elected Hammond as chairman in January as part of the annual election of chairs and vice chairs. Councilmember John White [District 7] was elected vice chairman. The council chair presides over regular council meeting and called special meetings and executive sessions.
Hammond has spent more than 30 years working for local government, including more than 20 years in St. Charles County. He was hired by St. Peters as building commissioner in 1985.
In 1994, he became director of the building division in the county’s Community Development Department. He retired from the county in 2010, and two years later, was elected a councilmember. He was re-elected in 2016.
White was elected a councilmember in 2001. He has owned a dental laboratory in St. Charles County since 1973 and been involved in many local civic organizations.
