Neighborhood brewery offers unique brews, live music

Craft breweries are popping up across St. Charles County, and St. Peters residents are reveling in the debut of Third Wheel Brewing – which opened in June 2017.

“We’re having a blast!” owner Brad Wheeling, a self-described beer nerd, said. “We’ve been really busy. There have been so many neighborhood visitors thanking us for opening a brewery in St. Peters.”

Third Wheel offers a fun, casual, laid-back vibe. Unlike a restaurant, there’s no pressure to turn tables. Brad encourages visitors to stay for a couple of hours and hang out – read books, play board games, work on their laptops or just socialize. Third Wheel features live local music every Saturday and bluegrass groups every Sunday.

“We’re really just trying to be the neighborhood brewery,” Brad said. “We don’t have plans to distribute our beer. We don’t want to be the biggest; we just want to be the best and serve the people who live closest to us.”

Third Wheel gets its name and logo from the brewery’s mascot, a three-wheeled delivery vehicle named Trixie. There are currently 14 house-made beers on draft, with new brews continuously being tapped – the latest being Saint Peters’ Porter with coffee and a New England-style pale ale called Hanging Pants.

The passion and talent of head brewer Abbey Spencer, a certified cicerone, is exemplified through the brewery’s variety of offerings. Brad said they plan to explore different brew styles, rather then specializing in just one.

Third Wheel also features a full food menu from The Window Kitchen.
