Teacher, preschool named ‘Best of St. Charles’

Van Voorn

The Academy of the Sacred Heart preschool and one of its teachers were named ‘Best of St. Charles’ in a recent poll sponsored by the St. Louis Post-Dispatch and Suburban Journals.

Rose Van Voorn, a pre-primary teacher, was named Best Teacher in the 2017 Best of St. Charles County reader’s poll, and the Academy was named as Best Preschool.

Van Voorn has spent the last eight years teaching a comprehensive, hands-on program for four-year-olds at the Academy, where she has spent 29 years teaching. Her training in the Parents as Teachers program through the public school district has helped her develop strong partnerships with the parents of the children she teaches each year.

“Learning by being actively engaged in the process is how children learn best and they learn because it is fun,” Van Voorn said.

Van Voorn also has taught at the kindergarten, first- and fourth-grade levels. She enjoys young learners best because of their curiosity, excitement for learning and the growth she sees in them.

The Best of St. Charles winners were announced and celebrated at a gala event at the Foundry Arts Centre.
