O’Fallon residents with disabilities who either cannot drive or do not have access to a car can apply for transportation to local essential living destinations, free, through O’Fallon’s Disabled Transportation program.
Starting in January, OATS, Inc., will provide eligible O’Fallon residents with transportation to local destinations for medical appointments, banking and for groceries and personal care shopping. Due to funding constraints, rides are limited to two per month.
“The city of O’Fallon’s Disabled Transportation Program is designed to foster independence and promote accessibility within our O’Fallon community at no cost to the participant,” said Alexis Jaegers, the city’s public assistance specialist.
To qualify for the program, residents must complete and submit an application to the public assistance office at city hall. As part of the application, residents must include legal proof of disability, photo identification and proof of O’Fallon residency. A photo ID with O’Fallon address and a disability award letter or Social Security information can be used to show proof of an O’Fallon address. Once an application has been approved, the resident may then contact OATS, Inc., to schedule rides.
