The city of O’Fallon is one step closer to having a brand new park.
At its Dec. 14 meeting, the O’Fallon City Council approved a $9.1 million contract with KCI Construction for construction of O’Day Park. The new park will be located on a 57-acre wooded tract off of Hwy. DD.
The city received 10 bids for the O’Day Park project. All of the bids came under the city’s budget of $13.3 million for the project, allowing the city to include several additions to the project that were originally considered alternate options.
The alternate options added to the contract with KCI Construction include, in part, additional parking at the park’s activity center, several outlook structures, additional picnic shelters, a water recirculation system for the park’s playground and a gabion entry sign.
The design for O’Day Park includes an activity and conference center, a camping area, trails, an amphitheater and an adventure playground area. The playground area will include climbing, water and active play zones.
Ground clearing for the project began on Dec. 26. The park is expected to open in January 2019. Navigate Building Solutions was selected earlier this year to serve as construction manager on the project.
O’Fallon voters approved a $20.7 million bond issue for park projects in August 2016.
