The Caroline Close Stuart Chapter, National Society Daughters of the American Revolution recently was awarded with the USO Five Star Award 2017 for its more than $11,000 in in-kind donations to the James S. McDonnell USO at Lambert Airport. Under a special children’s program, the chapter collects small stuffed animals and children’s books, and assembles them in a plastic bag. The USO gives them to children under age 12 who are traveling with their military parents. It is designed to help the children cope with seeing their military parent deploying on missions.
The award was presented by Christine Trotter, development director of the Lambert USO, to Chris Mongillo, literacy chairman, who is the driving force for the project.
Anne Gallagher also stepped up to accept the award as a chapter member who volunteers nearly 1,000 hours a year at the USO. Gallagher recently was honored by the USO for her outstanding commitment to serving the military.
