Local prep athletes in the St. Charles County made their college commitments for the 2018-19 academic year official on Wednesday, Nov. 8, signing national letters of intent to play a sport while continuing their educations.

The early signing period that high school seniors can sign national letters of intent for sports outside of football continues through Nov. 15.

Francis Howell had 11 athletes sign letters of intent. Holt also had a strong contingent with 10 athletes committing for sports and school next year.

Emily Rooney, Whitney Boschert, Marissa Guenther and Lexie Wallner from the Vikings Class 4 runner-up softball team signed to play college softball at Iowa Wesleyan, McKendree University, Missouri Western State University and Westminster College, respectively.

It was a day of celebration for the athletes and their families – the culmination of many years of hard work, sacrifice and dedication.

“It means a lot to have this day,” Boschert said. “Most of us have been dreaming of this since we were little and to be at this point in my life feels pretty good.”

“I think we have a great group of seniors that have not only done a lot on the court and on the field but also in the classroom,” Francis Howell Athletic Director Sean Erwin said. “It’s great to see the parents, the kids, the coaches, that have put in a lot of time to help them get to where they are now and just being able to celebrate that with them is really nice.”
