The Military Times has named the city of O’Fallon as the second best city in the country for veterans. This is the third time that O’Fallon has been listed by Military Times as one of the best cities for veterans, and is the city’s highest ranking to date.
In selecting O’Fallon, the magazine noted that approximately 15 percent of city employees are veterans, and cited its active, 11-member Veterans Commission, which recently worked with the City Council to designate parking spaces for Purple Heart recipients in city parks and at city facilities, an initiative which has spread to several local businesses.
Additionally, financial lender smartasset.com has named O’Fallon as No. 3 on a new list of the “Best Small Cities to Raise a Family.” Criteria for the selection included: median housing costs, income, annual childcare costs, high school graduation rates, crime ratings, family poverty rates and the percentage of residents age 20 and under. The number of childcare centers and unemployment rates also were considered.
The city of St. Charles ranked 10th on the list.
