In 1981, Ami Damte and his friend, Shabtai Moria, opened A’mis in Rock Hill. Ten years ago, they opened A’mis Italian Restaurant and Pizzeria in O’Fallon, off Hwy. K in Monticello Plaza.
The co-owners have served delicious, authentic Italian food in a casual, family-friendly environment for nearly 40 years. But customers gather at A’mis for much more than just a good meal. It’s the type of restaurant where everyone who comes in the door is treated like family – welcome to enjoy authentic Italian cuisine while creating memories that last a lifetime.
With the recent addition of private tables, A’mis is ready for romantic dinners or any festive occasion. The patio area in front of the restaurant is a favorite place for many customers to have a drink and enjoy some great pizza during fair weather months.
While the menu staples, such as traditional spaghetti and manicotti are excellent, the New York-style pizza is the ultimate reason why many customers know and love A’mis.
“Our dough is prepared fresh from scratch every single day with the best ingredients and then baked in our brick oven,” Moria explained. “We have a St. Louis-style crust, a Chicago deep dish and our hand-tossed New York-style pizza.”
Damte and Moria like to keep the menu fresh by adding new items. The Margarita, BBQ and Buffalo-style Pizzas are recent additions to the restaurant’s menu. And what goes better with pizza than pizza? Salad, of course. On that salad, the go-to favorite is the house Italian dressing, which has become quite famous in the last decade. Time and again, the owners have been asked to bottle and sell it.
“Their pizza and the house salad with house dressing is the best anywhere!” exclaimed O’Fallon resident and regular A’mis customer, Barbara Starmer.
Customers can’t beat the weekly lunch special, which includes a giant slice of pizza and a salad, served with A’mis’ famous Italian dressing for just $5.95. The lunch menu is available from 11 a.m.-4 p.m. daily. For local customers, A’mis offers a delivery service that is made even easier by a user-friendly online ordering feature.
Dining in or carrying out, A’mis’ mouth watering appetizers, such as Garlic Cheese Bread and Eggplant Parmigiano, are equally enticing. The popular Spinach Artichoke Cannelloni – tubular noodles stuffed with a cheese and artichoke blend baked to perfection – is a must try.
The menu also offers Steak and Baked Potatoes, Lemon Cod or Chicken Spedini. On the lighter side are a selection of sandwiches, including A’mis’ popular Roast Beef Sandwich.

“We stand behind our food,” Moria said. “It is all baked fresh and made to order. If there is ever an issue, we will resolve it quickly. Customer satisfaction is always our No. 1 priority.”
