Dog’s life may get easier in St. Charles County

By: Brian Flinchpaugh

St. Charles County is moving to replace 72 kennels at its Pet Adoption Center, 4850 Mid Rivers Mall Drive in St. Peters.

The County Council approved a rebid of the contract for the kennels at its Sept. 25 meeting as part of a list of items on its consent agenda. The $188,174 contract was awarded to S. K. Installations, Inc. of Lincoln, Nebraska.

S.K. Installations was the only bidder among six companies invited to submit bid on the first and second bid offering.

The 6-foot-high stainless steel dog kennels will replace the existing 6-foot-high galvanized metal kennels in each of two rooms at the Center.  All the kennels will include rotary water and food turners to minimize contact with personnel at the facility. The new kennels are needed because existing galvanized metal kennel frames are rusting from the inside out and panel attachments are starting the fail.

The county provides animal control services to a number of county municipalities. It currently has 122 kitten and 142 dog kennels.
