Five local students participated in the Missouri Electric Cooperative CYCLE [Cooperative Youth Conference and Leadership Experience] conference, held July 12-14 in Jefferson City. More than 100 high school students from across the state attended.

Local delegates included Jessie Jarvis from Marthasvilla; Alexis Koch from Lake Saint Louis; Jaime Mennemeyer and Lauryn Morris from Troy; and Makenna Jasper from Wentzville.

In the CYCLE program, students learn what it’s like to be involved in politics, the cooperative form of business and being a leader. The program includes nationally known speakers, a day at the state capitol to learn how a bill becomes a law and team activities to learn about electric cooperatives.

The annual contest, now in its 14th year, is open to high school sophomores who live and attend school in Cuivre River Electric Cooperative’s general service area, or who have Cuivre River Electric service in their homes.
