Cuivre River Electric Cooperative sponsored six students, including Brendan Heslin of Defiance, as participants in the 54th annual Missouri Electric Youth Tour in Washington, D.C., from June 9-15. More than 100 students attended from Missouri. The Youth Tour is a week-long experience for high school students with opportunities for involvement in politics, leadership positions, community service and discussions about current issues.
“The Youth Tour is the highlight of the summer for many students and we’re proud to send our best and brightest to Washington, D.C. this year to participate,” said Mike Marsch, director of member services for the Association of Missouri Electric Cooperatives in Jefferson City.
Missouri’s Youth Tour delegates visited with representatives from their congressional districts, toured famous monuments, Smithsonian Institution museums and Arlington National Cemetery. The group attended a performance of “The Sound of Music” at the Kennedy Center and took a sightseeing and dance cruise on the Potomac River with delegates from other states.
