O’Fallon moves to honor combat wounded

The city of O’Fallon has followed neighboring Lake Saint Louis in providing designated parking spaces for Purple Heart recipients. The Purple Heart is a U.S. military medal awarded in the name of the president to soldiers who have been wounded or killed in enemy combat.

Beginning last week, parking spaces for Purple Heart recipients were being marked in the following city parks: CarShield Field, Veterans Walk, Civic Park, Dames Park, Fort Zumwalt Park, the Ozzie Smith Sports Complex, the Renaud Spirit Center, Sports Park I, Sports Park II and Westhoff Park.

“Our combat-wounded veterans and soldiers have put their lives on the line for our country, our freedom and our way of life,” said Mayor Bill Hennessy. “Dedicated parking is just one small way to honor them, and it’s a great way to remind us that we have warriors living in our community.”
