Land of Smiles Tour promotes healthy dental habits

By NEZ SAVALA

The 2017 Land of Smiles Tour, presented by Delta Dental of Missouri, is on the road in St. Charles County to motivate children to adopt healthy life habits by teaching the importance of taking care of their teeth.

Students at Westhoff Elementary, Trinity Lutheran Elementary, St. Joseph Catholic, Green Tree Elementary and St. Paul School met Tooth Wizard, his sister, Tooth Fairy, and their archenemy, PlaqueMan, in an interactive program to teach children how to brush and floss teeth and to discuss the types of food that are good for teeth and overall health. Students were also given ‘smile bags’ with dental items.

Rob Goren, president and chief executive officer of Delta Dental of Missouri, said, “The work accomplished through Land of Smiles is completed as part of our social mission. We are committed to the well-being of the communities in our state and we place great emphasis on outreach programs, school-based educational events and other oral health initiatives.

“Tooth decay is almost 100 percent preventable. The formula is simple. You need to brush twice daily, floss and see a dentist twice a year.”
