Academy of the Sacred Heart, an independent Catholic school in St. Charles, will welcome a new head of school for the coming school year.

Susan Tyree Dempf, Ph.D., will become the head of school, beginning July 1, succeeding Maureen Glavin, RSCJ, who has been in the position since 2004.

Dempf is currently a high school director at Carrollton School of the Sacred Heart in Miami. She has experience in post-secondary education as an associate professor and assistant dean and is a former national program director for the Network of Sacred Heart Schools, a consortium of 24 schools in the U.S. and Canada. She has a bachelor’s degree in economics from Hobart and William Smith Colleges and a master’s in administration from Springfield College in Massachusetts. Dempf earned a doctoral degree in teaching and curriculum from Syracuse University.

“The Academy of the Sacred Heart has been educating the hearts and minds of children for nearly two centuries and I am overjoyed to have been presented with the opportunity to lead this amazing community,” said Dempf. “I am looking forward to working together with parents, faculty and staff, as well as the board, to advance the mission of Sacred Heart education.”
