Former O’Fallon Mayor Edward J. Greisenauer passed away on Nov. 14. A lifelong O’Fallon resident, Mr. Griesenauer served on the city’s Board of Aldermen for 17 years, then as the city’s mayor from 1986 to 1995. Among his accomplishments as mayor, he organized the West 70 Commerce Center, the city’s original industrial park, he oversaw the first phase of widening Hwy. K from two lanes to four and signed the contract for the construction of the Bryan Road interchange on Interstate 70.
“With the passing of former mayor Ed Griesenauer yesterday, the city of O’Fallon lost one of its formative leaders,” said Mayor Ed Hennessy. “Our thoughts and prayers are with his family at this time. Giving nearly 30 years of his life to public service, he was instrumental in setting a firm foundation for the outstanding quality of life we enjoy in our city today. His legacy shows in steadfast support for expanding our park system, in initiating a modern business community and in securing access to I-70 for what is now the western half of O’Fallon. His contributions helped O’Fallon make the crucial transition from a small, rural community to what is now the seventh-largest city in the state and one of the country’s best places to live.”
