Wentzville remains the major hub of new housing activity in St. Charles County through the first nine months of this year.
Through September, 550 single-family and 78 multi-family housing permits on nine lots have been issued in Wentzville, the most of any single governmental entity in the county. For years, the Wentzville area, which has large areas of open land, has led in housing permit activity.
The number of single-family permits Wentzville issued each month has varied from 41 in June to 91 in August. Fifty single-family permits were issued in September. Monthly housing permits for government entities are compiled by the St. Charles County Community Development Department.
Total housing permit activity countywide may equal or exceed housing permit totals for 2013 through 2015. Through September this year, permits for 1,838 residential units have been issued throughout the county — 1,390 single-family and 448 multi-family.
That compares to 2,175 permits issued for all of 2015, 2,587 in 2014 and 2,075 in 2013. Most of the permits over the years have been for single-family houses– 1,693 last year, 1,704 in 2014 and 1,742 in 2013.
Multi-family permits for condominiums and apartments have varied over the last three years – 482 in 2015, 883 in 2014 and 333 in 2013.
Behind Wentzville, is the City of Saint Charles with 205 permits for single-family housing and 217 multi-family permits issued through September. O’Fallon was next with 297 single-family permits and 117 multi-family permits for the same period.
In the unincorporated area that includes the county as well as Augusta, Weldon Spring and West Alton, 101 single family and 14 multi-family permits were issued through September.
In other municipalities through September, 71 single-family permits and no multi-family permits were issued in St. Peters, 68 single-family permits and 22 multi-family permits were issued in Lake Saint Louis, 43 single-family permits in Cottleville and 18 single-family permits in Dardenne Prairie.
Thirty-seven single-family permits were issued during this period in Flint Hill, Foristell, Josephville, New Melle, Portage Des Sioux, St. Paul and Weldon Spring Heights.
