St. Peters police are looking for the female driver of a red SUV who struck a teenager on a bicycle on Sunday, Sept. 18 along Mid-Rivers Mall Drive and left the scene.
The 13-year-old boy was taken to a hospital with a non-life threatening arm injury. Two other friends also on bicycles several feet behind the victim were able to stop immediately after the accident and were not injured.
Police say they received a call about 11:58 a.m. that the teenager had been struck. The boy had been traveling south on the east side of Mid-Rivers Mall Drive, approaching a Dairy Queen restaurant entrance at 1015 St. Peters Howell Road.
The driver in the Dairy Queen parking lot pulled forward and stopped for oncoming traffic on Mid-Rivers Mall Drive before she made a right turn to go north. She may have been watching northbound Mid-Rivers Mall Drive traffic before making a right turn.
She then struck the teenager who rode his bike directly in front of her vehicle when she was making the right turn onto Mid-Rivers Mall Drive. Witnesses at the scene told police that the driver made no attempt to stop and police say they have been unable so far to find the vehicle or driver.
The witnesses described the driver as a white female. The SUV was red and may have had minor to moderate damage on the front of the vehicle, they said.
Anyone with information about this vehicle and the driver is asked to contact officer Jake Bass at 636-278-2244, ext. 6389 or report information at our Crime Solvers Hotline at 636-278-1000.
