Housing activity continues to be steady in St. Charles County where the number of single family housing permits issued through August was about the same as last year for the same period and multi-family permits are up.
In all, 1,682 single and multi-family permits have been issued through the end of August in the county, compared to 1,448 for the same eight-month period last year. In 2014, 1,716 single and multi-family housing permits were issued in the county through August, and 1,380 were issued for the same period in 2013.
The monthly statistics were compiled by the St. Charles County Community Development Department. Of the 1,682 permits issued in the county through August, 1,259 were for single-family homes and 423 were multi-family permits for apartments, condominiums and villas.
If the number of permits issued in the county continues at this pace for the rest of this year, the total number of single and multi-family permits issued in 2016 could exceed the 2,175 permits issued in 2015, and the 2,075 issued in 2013 and come close or exceed the 2,587 total permits issued in 2014.
During the first eight months of the last three years, the number of single-family permits has stayed in the 1,200 to 1,400 range – 1,224 in 2015, 1,225 in 2014, and 1,242 in 2013 – but the number of multi-family permits has fluctuated.
Through August this year, 423 multi-family permits were issued, compared to 224 in 2015 through August, 491 through August 2014 and 138 for the same time period in 2013.
Wentzville continued to the leader among county municipalities in total housing permits issued through August of this year—500 single-for the first five months of this year – 302 single and 78 multi-family permits for a total of 380. The city of St. Charles was second so far this year with 188 single and 205 multi-family permits issued, for a total of 393 through August. The city of O’Fallon was next with 266 single and 115 multi-family permits for a total of 381 for the year through August.
Sixty-three single and 22 multi-family permits were issued through August in Lake Saint Louis. Sixty-two single-family and no multi-family permits were issued in St. Peters during this period. In Cottleville, 41 single and no multi-family permits were issued through August of this year. Eighteen single-family and no multi-family permits were issued in Dardenne Prairie.
Ninety-three single-family permits and three multi-family permits were issued in the county’s unincorporated area, Augusta, Weldon Spring and West Alton through August. The county also lists 93 single-family and three multi-family permits in St. Peters. Twenty-eight single-family were issued through August in Flint Hill, Josephville, New Melle, Portage des Sioux, St. Paul and Weldon Spring Heights.
