Dr. Jeff Barudin, associate professor of music at Lindenwood University and the new director of its orchestra, has announced that the orchestra will begin welcoming musicians from the community this fall.
Previously, the orchestra consisted entirely of musicians from the university.
Barudin said he hopes to add adults and talented high school musicians, which will be selected through an audition process. He said he believes the initiative will will strengthen the university’s bond with the community, help reinforce the orchestra and could possibly bring potential students to the university.
He noted that the Lindenwood University Orchestra would be the first ensemble in the immediate area to offer a combined university/community format.
Rehearsals will be held on Monday nights from 7-9:30 p.m. in the university’s J. Scheidegger Center for the Arts.
“I am very excited to have the opportunity to lead an ensemble that will serve as a direct link to our musical community,” Barudin said.
