New housing development remains active in St. Charles County so far in 2016

Housing activity continues to be on fire in St. Charles County where more housing permits have been issued so far this year than during the same period going back to 2013.

In all, 1,137 single and multi-family permits have been issued through the end of May in the county, compared to 835 for the same five-month period last year.  In 2014, 1,023 single and multi-family housing permits were issued in the county through May, and 733 were issued for the same period in 2013.

The monthly statistics were compiled by the St. Charles County Community Development Department. Of the 1,137 issued in the county through May, 746 were for single-family homes and 391 for apartments, condominiums and villas.

If the number of permits issued in the county continues at this pace for the rest of this year, the total number of single and multi-family permits issued in 2016 could exceed the 2,175 permits issued in 2015, and the 2,075 issued in 2013 and come close or exceed the 2,587 total permits issued in 2014.

During the first five months of the last three years, the number of single-family permits has stayed in the 700 range – 759 in 2015, 721 in 2014, and 714 in 2013 – but the number of multi-family permits has fluctuated.

More multi-family permits were issued through May of this year than for the same period going back to 2013 – 76 in 2015, 302 in 2014 and 19 in 2013.

Wentzville continued to the leader among county municipalities in total housing permits issued for the first five months of this year – 302 single-family and 78 multi-family permits for a total of 380.  The city of St. Charles was next with 91 single-family and 196 multi-family permits issued for a total of 287.

O’Fallon was next with 159-single family and 95 multi-family permits issued for a total of 254.  In Lake Saint Louis, 42 single-family and 22 multi-family permits have been issued through the first five months of 2014 for a total of 64.

In all, 55 housing permits – all of them for single-family homes — were issued through May in the unincorporated area that also includes Augusta, Weldon Spring and West Alton.   Forty single-family permits — and no multi-family – were issued in St. Peters during this period.

Cottleville issued 28 single-family housing permits, Dardenne Prairie issued 12 single-family permits and 17 single-family permits were issued in Flint Hill, Foristell, New Melle, Portage des Sioux, St. Paul and Weldon Spring Heights through May this year. But no multi-family permits were issued this same period in these municipalities and villages.
