Candidate filing opens Dec. 15 for the April 2016 municipal election and will continue until 5 p.m. on Jan. 19.
Candidates must file in person at the city halls of their local municipalities. Each municipality may have its own set of procedures and filing fees, so it is in the best interest of the candidate to check the city’s website prior to filing.
Openings in Dardenne Prairie include the remaining year of former Mayor Pam Fogarty’s four-year term. Also open are three seats on the city’s six-member Board of Aldermen, one in each ward. Aldermen serve two-year tearms.
In Cottleville, two of the city’s four aldermen are up for re-election in April. The city has two wards, each with two aldermen, who serve two-year terms.
Three aldermanic seats in Lake Saint Louis are up for re-election on April 5. The city has three wards, each represented by two aldermen who serve two-year terms.
O’Fallon has five seats on the City Council in the April election, one in each ward. Members of O’Fallon’s City Council serve three-year terms.
In St. Peters, openings include mayor and aldermen in each of the city’s four wards. St. Peters aldermen serve four-year terms.
In Weldon Spring, three aldermanic positions are open, one in each of the city’s three wards, each with a two-year term.
Basic requirements for those seeking the position of alderman or city council member include being at least 18 years of age, a citizen of the United States and an inhabitant and resident of the city in which the candidacy is filed for a minimum of one year preceding the election.
