The Fort Zumwalt School District Board of Education has announced the purchase of the Richmond property, located at 7874-7888 Veterans Memorial Parkway in St. Peters, for the purpose of creating an Early Childhood Center.
The purchase, effective Jan. 4, 2016, was made possible as part of a $25-million no-tax-increase bond issue voters approved in April 2015.
Ittner Architects will design renovations for the 71,000-square-foot facility, so it will best serve the 3- to 5-year-old students who will attend there. The building, which sits on 8.5 acres, is the former site of the Sanford Brown Cordon Bleu building. The district plans to open the facility for the 2017-2018 school year, allowing adequate time for curriculum considerations and proper renovations.
The facility will become home to the Early Childhood Special Education program that the district currently operates at United Services for Children. The district’s program is reimbursable through state and federal funds as long as students learn alongside a typically developing peer group of similar size.
