The Travelers Protective Association (TPA), a fraternal benefit society based in St. Charles, recently awarded 38 third-quarter scholarships through its Scholarship Trust for the Hearing Impaired totaling $16,950. The grants, awarded nationwide to deaf or hearing impaired individuals, ranged from $200 to $750 per person and are used for mechanical devices, medical and specialized treatment, and education including speech classes and interpreters.
The trust has distributed over $2 million to approximately 5,000 recipients to date.

St. Charles-based 1st Financial Federal Credit Union recently was honored with two awards given annually by the Credit Union National Association (CUNA) to recognize outstanding community development achievements. The company received first place in Missouri for the Louise Herring Philosophy-in-Action Member Service Award, along with honorable mention for the Dora Maxwell Responsibility Community Service Award. Both awards recognize 1st Financial’s commitment to the St. Louis and St. Charles communities through the STL Youth Jobs program and the Helping People 1st Grant program.
