Behind the running and kicking of Fort Zumwalt East star Dan Morris, the Lions raced out to a seemingly safe 9-0 lead in the third quarter.
Morris hit a 27-yard field goal in the second quarter and scored on a 5-yard run in the third quarter to put the Lions up nine with 2:57 left in the third quarter.
But Parkway Central got a big play from its passing game and found its run game in the final 14 minutes as the Colts scored 22 unanswered points to come from behind for a 22-9 Class 5, District 3 quarterfinal win at Parkway Central Friday night.
Number four seeded Parkway Central(7-3) will head to Fort Zumwalt North Friday night (9-0) for a Class 5, District 3 semifinal match up.
After the Lions got the 9-0 lead, Central’s offense got the jump needed just two plays later as quarterback Mitchell Goldenberg hit Darius Ramsey down the field for a 64-yard catch and run for a touchdown.
An interception from Colts defensive back Jaden Mitchell put Central back in Zumwalt East territory on the next drive.
Mitchell finished off that march with a 9-yard scoring run to begin the fourth quarter.
Then with 3:02 left, Ramsey broke the Lions’ backs with an eye-popping 73-yard touchdown run which made it 22-9.
Zumwalt East saw its the season end at 4-6.
