Chandler Hill Vineyards proprietor Chuck Gillentine can tell you about his vineyards’ quality food and award-winning wines. He can talk about the upscale atmosphere and live music events. But the view from the outside dining area that overlooks the rows and rows of grapevines; the feeling of enjoying a meal to the backdrop of rolling hills and a crystal-clear lake – that is something you have to experience in person to fully appreciate.

Just 10 miles from Hwy. 64 in Defiance, Missouri, Chandler Hill is easy to reach, making it a perfect spot for an afternoon or evening getaway, and its robust lunch menu features meals to suit any taste.

If you’ve got a hearty appetite, the King Buck Burger may be the thing for you. Topped with caramelized onions, house-made barbecue sauce and served on a brioche bun, this juicy giant is enough to satisfy any hamburger enthusiast. For diners who crave greens, Chandler Hill offers up the Spinach Strawberry Salad featuring baby spinach, blackened chicken, strawberries and candied walnuts, all of which is topped with feta cheese and house-made balsamic vinaigrette.

At night, diners can try a variety of sumptuous selections off Chandler Hill’s recently introduced dinner menu, complete with selections of appetizers, salads and entrées. From the King Buck Pork Chop to the grilled salmon, guests can find all manner of tasty morsels, all of which are affordably priced and pair flawlessly with the vineyard’s wines.

Chandler Hill doesn’t slouch in the wine department, either.

Gillentine said his Lake Hawk Vignoles is a huge crowd pleaser, and the Vineyard’s Vidal Blanc and Savage Norton are popular as well. The wine menu boasts reds and whites, showcasing exciting flavors, sparkling delicacies, exotic reserve wines and  dessert wines that put smiles on the mouths that sip them.

“Our Norton won the CV Reilly Award this year,” Gillentine said. “Last year, we won the best Chambourcin in the state. I think we’ve got a niche of making some good local wines.”

The vineyard features both an inside and outside eating area, as well as a square-shaped bar for wine tasting. The tastings themselves are a bargain, starting at $5 for a sampling of five wines of your choice, and are the perfect way to pass the time with your friends, or significant other, while your food is prepared.
The combination of the wine, food and atmosphere is what sets Chandler Hill apart. The décor combines a country aesthetic with a hint of modernism, and the dining experience is enveloped in an understated elegance, enhanced by live music on the weekends.
