Santos to stay

Dardenne Prairie Alderman Doug Santos (Ward 2) isn’t leaving after all.

Santos, who announced Aug. 19 that he was resigning his seat on the board to spend more time with his family, has agreed to stay on as an alderman,

He made his decision after city officials learned that the only person to apply for the seat, Alan Johnson, has not lived in the city long enough to qualify. Residents have to live in the city for one year before they can hold a city elective position.

Mayor David Zucker said on Sept. 21 that Johnson and his family rented a residence for a time that was outside the city limits before recently buying a house that is in the city.

He said he and the board are happy that Santos can continue his service. “He’s a good guy,” Zucker said.

Santos, who was elected to a two-year term in April 2014, is up for reelection next April. A St. Charles County police officer, Santos had previously run unsuccessfully to unseat former mayor Pam Fogarty in 2013 before being elected in 2014.
