River City first baseman Josh Silver was the man of the night for the Rascals and thanks to Silver’s big-time long ball swings, the Rascals are headed back to the Frontier League Championship series for the second consecutive season.
Silver ripped a pair of grand slam home runs and catapulted River City to a 9-5 series clinching win over the Southern Illinois Miners in game three of the Division series on Sunday night at Rent One Park in Marion, Ill.
River City (59-47) advances into the League Championship Series and will open play on Tuesday evening with game one against the Traverse City Beach Bums at Wuerfel Park in Traverse City, MI.
Southern Illinois scored two runs in the bottom of the first off Rascals starter Tim Koons to get the early lead. An inning later, the Rascals responded as Johhny Morales stroked a two-out run-scoring single cutting it to 2-1.
In the top of the fourth, the Rascals off of two hits and an intentional walk to Josh Ludy. With two out, Silver blasted a shot over the left-center field wall putting River City ahead to stay at 5-2.
The Miners got a run back in the bottom of the inning on an RBI single by Brian Portelli.
Things stayed at 5-3 until the eighth inning when the Rascals loaded the bases against Miners reliever Angel Ramirez off a single and two walks.
Silver then came up to bat and crushed another homer over the left field wall for his second grand slam of the night making it 9-5.
Lucas Laster picked up the win for River City in relief and Rick Teasley took the loss for the Southern Illinois.
Southern Illinois finished the 2015 season at 64-35.
