Three weeks are in the books for the Fort Zumwalt South football team and the Bulldogs have yet to lose.
Zumwalt South ran its perfect start to the 2015 season to 3-0 on Friday night thanks to an exciting come-from-behind 22-21 victory at Francis Howell North on Friday night.
Drake Whaley gave the Bulldogs the early lead as he scored on 15-yard run to make it 6-0 with 7:35 left in the first quarter. The point after kick failed.
Just 13 seconds later, Howell North responded big time as Donnell Hawkins broke loose and dashed 65 yards for a touchdown making it 7-6.
Neither team was able to score in the second quarter as the defenses settled in and took over in a battle of field position.
Howell North (1-2) went to the air to score in the third quarter, as Connor Gallagher hit Blake Lodde with a 28-yard touchdown pass as the Knights extended their lead to 14-6 with 1:18 left in the third quarter.
The Bulldogs rebounded with 6:41 left to go as DJ Burlage hauled in a 19-yard pass from Whaley and Whaley ran in the two point conversion to tie it 14-14.
Then Howell North with another scoring drive as Najee Follin scored on a 4-yard run with 4:29 to go making it 21-14.
But Burlage, Whaley, and the Zumwalt South offense was not quite done.
Zumwalt South drove inside the Knights 20-yard line and with 20 seconds left, Whaley and Burlage connected for their second touchdown of the night on a 12-yard pass to make it 20-21. Whaley found Kai Collier in the end zone for the two-point conversion pass and the Bulldogs unbeaten streak was preserved for another week.
Fort Zumwalt South will travel to Holt next Friday at 7 p.m. for its GAC Central conference opener.
Howell North travels to unbeaten Francis Howell for the GAC South conference opener for both teams.
