Counterfeit $100 bills appear in St. Charles County

Authorities in St. Charles County has made it known that counterfeit $100 bills are being passed around O’Fallon and Wentzville.

The bills are $1 bills that have been washed and reprinted as $100 bills. Photographs of the bills show a shadow of numeral one visible in the upper and lower left hand corners of the counterfeit bills. Also, in the center of the bills, to the right of Franklin’s face, a shadow of the oval that Washington’s face is in can be seen. In the upper right hand corner of the bills, the shadow of the numeral one appears again.

The shadow of the seal can be seen on the back of the bills on the left side in the white area. On the right hand side, below the numeral one in 100 you can see the shadow of the numeral one and the word one.

The O’Fallon Chamber of Commerce is warning that a bill pen will not work on these bills since they are washed treasury paper with a different bill copied onto them.
