At 2:38 p.m. on Aug. 10, the O’Fallon Police Department responded to the 300 block of J-Mark Court in response to a report of multiple assaults. Officers arrived on the scene and met with two victims. According to a press release, subsequent investigation revealed that the female victim was struck in the head with a box cutter by the suspect. The female victim hid inside her car, which the suspect proceeded to charge and attack. The suspect then approached the second victim, who was trapped in his vehicle. According to the release, the suspect then brandished the box cutter, extended the blade, and pointed it at the second victim, and made threatening statements. When the suspect ran away, the second victim called police.

Police later attempted to make contact with the suspect at his apartment on J-Mark Court, however he would not exit the residence, and the St. Charles County Regional SWAT Team was called in. The release states the SWAT team physically entered the apartment after the suspect refused to surrender, and took him into custody around 6:42 p.m.

The St. Charles County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office has issued charges on two counts of assault in the second degree, two counts of armed criminal action and property damage in the second degree on Preston Love, a 55-year-old O’Fallon resident. Bond is set at $75,000.
