Lewis named city historian

St. Charles County Sheriff Scott Lewis, who previously was the longtime city administrator and police chief for Cottleville, has been named the city’s official historian.

Mayor James Hennessey, at the city’s July 16 Board of Aldermen meeting, said Lewis has always had a keen interest in the history of the area. The designation, which carries no salary or authority, is a way to honor Lewis’ service to the city, Hennessey said.

The town is one of the oldest in St. Charles County, with roots back to 1798.

Lewis served as police chief and city administrator for Cottleville at the same time for much of his tenure with the city – being named police chief in 1997 and serving as city administrator for 13 years.
