Mattress DirectNEW STORE IN TOWN

Owner Pat McCurren has opened the ninth St. Louis area Mattress Direct store, located at 1240 Highway K in O’Fallon. Mattress Direct is a factory-direct showroom for mattress brands including Beautyrest, Tempur-Pedic and Comfor-Pedic. The business is open Monday through Friday from 10 a.m.-8 p.m., Saturday from 10 a.m.-6 p.m. and Sunday from 11 a.m.-5 p.m., and may be reached at 240-1028.

Mechanical contractor Murphy Company has named Kevin M. Suiter, P.E., a resident of St. Charles, as a senior project manager.  Murphy Company also added two recent graduates to its technology and engineering staff: Technical Business Analyst Kristi Decker graduated in December from the University of Missouri-Columbia with a bachelor of science degree in information technology;  and Design-Build Engineer Justine Schaper , of Lake Saint Louis, is a May 2014 graduate of the university with a bachelor of science in mechanical engineering.

Through its “Helping People 1st” grant program, employees of 1st Financial Federal Credit Union’s Wentzville branch employees held a month-long drive in January to benefit the St. Charles City-County Library Foundation.  They accepted book donations and hosted bake sales to raise funds for the foundation, raising nearly $750 in addition to collecting over 2000 books and creating 130 early literacy kits for area preschoolers.

Sts. Joachim and Ann Care Service recently received a $5,000 Operation Round Up grant from the Cuivre River Electric Community Trust Board. The funds will  support the nonprofit organization’s mission to serve those in crisis and prevent homelessness.

The St. Charles County Department of Community Health and the Environment has announced its 24 Carrot Gold Food Safety Excellence Award winners for 2014. The awards recognize local food service providers that demonstrate excellence in food safety, sanitation and employee education. Winners included Ameristar Casino’s Landmark Buffet in St. Charles; Barathaven Alzheimer’s Special Care Center in Dardenne Prairie; Daddy Ray Burgers in O’Fallon; Fratelli’s Ristorante in St. Charles; Los 3 Compadres Mexican Restaurant in Weldon Spring; Panda Express, located at 1985 Wentzville Parkway in Wentzville; and Pickleman’s Gourmet Cafe in St. Charles.

 

EVENTS AND NETWORKING

The Community Council of St. Charles County, in partnership with the St. Charles City-County Library District, hosts the OnTarget Technology Conference on Thursday, April 9, in the Community Commons meeting room at the Spencer Road Library in St. Peters. The conference will explore how business-focused planning can help organizations use new technology more effectively and cost-efficiently, and will also include exhibits by technology vendors.
