Fort Zumwalt West Middle students and staff participated in the 12th annual Polar Bear Plunge for Special Olympics on Feb. 7.

Eight Fort Zumwalt West Middle staff members and 43 eighth-grade members of the National Junior Honors Society raised nearly $10,000 for Special Olympics after plunging into the freezing water of Lake Sainte Louise in Lake Saint Louis.

For the seventh consecutive year the Fort Zumwalt team was the top fundraiser for the event which raised more than $114,000 overall. Support for this event provides opportunities to thousands of Special Olympics athletes in the St. Louis Metro area to participate in year-round sports.
