A more than decade-long partnership was recognized on Nov. 19 with the official dedication of “SSM Health Care Court” at the halftime of Lindenwood University’s season-opening men’s basketball game.
“We are honored this evening to take a very public step in recognizing the commitment between these two pillars of our community, as Lindenwood University dedicates the floor of the Hyland Arena in the name of SSM Health Care,” Assistant Athletics Director Tom Wagganer said during the presentation.
The two institutions began a partnership more than 10 years ago, when SSM Health Care took over staffing and management of the Student Health Center at Lindenwood University. Soon after, SSM Orthopedics Group got involved with the athletic training program, providing physicians along the sidelines of all football, wrestling and women’s hockey events.
“As SSM Orthopedics got involved the relationship flourished,” said Scott Queen, director of marketing for Lindenwood University.
Lisle Wescott, president of SSM St. Joseph Hospital West, said, “Our quest is really to create exceptional care and build a healthy community together.”
The benefits are mutual.
Queen said Lindenwood provides exposure and marketing opportunities for SSM Health Care.
This spring Lindenwood University will host the MIAA conference for track, and more than 1,200 athletes will visit St. Charles.
“SSM will be very prominent at the event,” Queen said.
