The International Astronomical Union and Massachusetts Institute of Technology’s Lincoln Near-Earth Asteroid Research Program (LINEAR) have named minor planet #28866 Chakraborty, in honor of Chesterfield teen Uttara Chakraborty.

Dr. Grant H. Stokes, head of the Aerospace Division and Principal Investigator of the LINEAR program, said, “We are pleased that the technical accomplishments of Lincoln Laboratory can contribute to recognizing [Uttara’s] achievement. The LINEAR Program promotes science education by identifying and honoring outstanding students. Chakraborty wins this honor in recognition of [her] achievement as a top award winner in the 2013 Intel International Science and Engineering Fair.”
