This summer, Parkway West junior Alyssa Jensen and senior Cassie Frazier decided to spend a portion of their vacation in a third-world country doing humanitarian work.
The girls teamed up with Humanitarian Experience for Youth (H.E.F.Y.) and 17 other students from around the United States to build classrooms in Bolivia. From June 11 through June 27, the two students spent long days doing manual labor in an effort to learn the true meaning of service.
Activities included digging, mixing cement, laying brick and serving people living in impoverished conditions. In the process, the girls say that they changed the lives of those they served, as well as their own.
