The St. Louis BBQ Society has fired up grills and smokers in the parking lot of St. Louis Home Fires, 15053 Manchester Road in Ballwin, but the grill masters not getting ready for a BBQ competition or even hosting dinner for family and friends.

No. They’re grilling up a storm – Mother Nature might help – in an effort to provide a good meal and a show of support for law enforcement personnel on the frontline in Ferguson.

“Members of the St. Louis BBQ Society are here and we’ve got brisket and butts on the grills,” said St. Louis Home Fire owner Frank Schmer. “Plus members of the society and the community have been dropping by with donations of food – chips, soft drinks, baked goods.

“We’ll be grilling and accepting donations until about 5 p.m. today (Aug. 19) and then we’re going to pack it up and take it to Ferguson.”

This photo, submitted at 12:50 p.m. on Aug. 19 shows the donations that already have been dropped off at St. Louis Home Fires.
