City of O’Fallon trash service customers are invited to take advantage of the city’s free, bi-monthly drop-off for many items that are too large to fit into curbside trash containers. The drop-off will be held 7 a.m.–3 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 16. Acceptable items can be brought to O’Fallon’s waste transfer station at 1572 Progress West Lane. Additional drop-off dates will be held from 7 a.m. – 3 p.m. on Aug. 16, Oct. 18, and Dec. 13.
To drop off items, O’Fallon trash customers must show a current photo ID with their O’Fallon address. Only one load per household will be accepted per day, and only cars, pickup trucks, and small trailers 10 feet long or less will be allowed. Residents also must unload their own items. For a complete list of non-acceptable and acceptable bulk waste items that can be taken to the drop-off, visit www.ofallon.mo.us/bulk-waste. A partial listing includes:
Acceptable items – furniture, carpets, swing sets, bikes, toddler pools, sports and exercise equipment, large hand tools, barbecue grills, fluorescent tubes, computer monitors and televisions. Lawn mowers, except riding mowers, also are accepted, but gas and oil tanks must be empty.
Unacceptable items – yard waste, appliances, tires, auto parts, batteries, gas, oil, transmission fluid, and liquid household hazardous waste: paint, solvents, pesticides, fungicides, herbicides and their containers. Electronics and appliances also can be recycled, free, at the city’s final Electronics and Appliance Recycling Event of the year, 7 a.m. – noon on Saturday, Dec. 6, in the parking lot at T.R. Hughes Ballpark. This event will be open to everyone as well as to city trash customers. Watch for details closer to the date.
For city trash customers, curbside collection for many large items is available by calling Environmental Services at 636-272-0477, or contacting staff by email, email@example.com. Cost of the service is $20 per truck hopper.
Directions to O’Fallon’s waste transfer station: Take the North Service Road to Hoff Road (9/10 of a mile west of the Bryan Road junction). Turn north on Hoff Road, cross the railroad tracks and bear left (west). Continue on Hoff Road for about three blocks, and turn left on Progress West; continue to the transfer station.
