The Lindenwood football Lions will get a prime-time chance to showcase their skills to the entire nation when the Lions play in a nationally televised game during the 2014 season.
That televised game, which will appear on CBS Sports Network, highlights the Lions 2014 home schedule.
Lindenwood will play host to Missouri Western on Sept. 25 at Harlen C. Hunter Stadium. The game will mark the first-ever meeting between the two schools and will be shown nationally on the CBS Sports Network.
Also, it will mark the second time that Lindenwood has appeared on national television with the other appearance coming in 2009 in the NAIA National Championship Game which was also shown on the CBS Sports Network.
Lindenwood has been made part of the NCAA Divison II Thursday night sports package on the CBS Sports Network as a result of winning the NCAA Division II Award of Excellence last year. Lindenwood’s award-winning entry “Sellout for Sterling” was a basketball promotion and fundraiser that helped show and provide support for injured Lindenwood football player Sterling Thomas.
The nationally televised game will kick off a home schedule that includes two of the last three NCAA Division II national champions beginning with Thursday, Sept. 11 against Pittsburg State. Then the Lions will host Northwest Missouri for Homecoming on Oct. 11. Other home games will include Missouri Southern on Oct. 25 and Northeastern State on Nov. 15.
All 11 games on the 2014 schedule are Midwest Intercollegiate Conference games for the Lions and the schedule will be the most challenging in the program history.
Seven of the teams on the schedule have made the NCAA playoffs and eight of the Lions 11 opponents had a winning record last season.
