Women’s Missouri Mid Amateur Championship begins this week at Greenbriar

The fourth Missouri Women’s Golf Association Mid Amateur Championship begins Thursday (July 24)  at the beautiful Greenbriar Hills Country Club in Kirkwood and two-time defending champion Mindy Coyle will try to make it three in a row.
The women will  have a practice round Wednesday before beginning the 36-hole competition.
Greenbriar Hills will once again become the battleground for an MWGA title.  The club served as a previous host of the 1969 and 1994 Women’s Amateur Championships.

Coyle, of Columbia, who won in (2012 and  2013,  returns to meet players from Missouri and Johnson County, Kan., who are aged 25 and older in a two-day stroke play event.

There are two divisions in the field playing from a championship yardage, which will be 5,400 yards and the other playing in the Open Division yardage, which will be 5,100 yards.

This year’s Missouri Women’s Amateur champion Ellen Port has also entered the field along with many other top amateurs from around state.

Some of the other women also competing will be Kathy Glennon, of St. Albans;  Tina Jones, of Wildwood;  Melanie Trimmer, of Chesterfield;  Jennifer Webb, of Des Peres; Ginny Orthwein, of St. Louis;  Mary Ann Beattie, of St. Louis;  Kim Schoenborn, of O’Fallon; Shelby Lynn Weible, of St. Albans; Sue Springmeyer, of St. Albans; and Alicia Springmeyer, of Chesterfield.
