The St. Charles area made its presence felt on the recently announced Missouri High School Baseball Coaches Association All-State team.

Nine players from the area made the cut for the 2017 Class 5 All-State Team.

Michael Cessna, a 2017 Fort Zumwalt West graduate, was a second team selection. As the Jaguars top pitcher last season, Cessna had a 7-1 record, a 1.70 ERA and helped the Jaguars rise to their first state championship game appearance in June.

Francis Howell’s McGwire Dean also was named to the second team as an infielder while Howell teammate Kyle Grantham was a first team selection in the outfield. Grantham hit a team-high .523 as a senior and Dean hit .426 with 26 RBIs.

In the outfield, Fort Zumwalt West senior Andrew Schofield and Fort Zumwalt North junior Travis Dames also were named to the second team. Schofield hit .392 with 26 RBIs. Dames led Fort Zumwalt North at the plate with a blazing .495 batting average and 33 RBIs.

In the designated hitter/utility spot on the first team, Holt junior standout Cody Hacker made the cut along with Eric Tipton of Troy Buchanan.
