For the past three seasons, longtime Lutheran St. Charles head baseball coach Dennis Lueck had been hinting at stepping down from the program. But when Lueck decided the 2017 season would be his last, Lutheran St. Charles athletic director Doug Kuhlmann had the perfect replacement already in-house – Dennis’ son, Andy.
It was definitely the right opportunity at the right time for Andy, who has worked on his father’s staff as an assistant coach the past nine years.
Andy has served in a variety of coaching positions for Lutheran during his time there. He was an assistant varsity boys basketball coach for five years and also coached the freshman basketball team starting in 2007 for four seasons, compiling a 48-17 record. And he coached JV baseball for a season.
In his nine years as an assistant, he helped the Cougars amass a 149-80-1 record, which included three district championships, six conference championships, and a third-place finish in the Missouri Class 3 tournament in 2015.
“We’ve built our program off of hard work and we are looking forward to building off of and keeping up the level of success we already have,” Andy said.
